Motivational Motivation

What kind of sorcery and magic do people use to be able to follow a strict diet and workout routine? Motivation can last for a few hours, a couple of days, maybe even a week. Almost everyone has used the excuse of "I'll just start working out tomorrow" to justify having a snack or to load up on delicious carbs.

So, how do we keep the mental strength necessary to put down the cheesecake and wine to pick up a dumbbell instead? Motivation!

Motivation is the key to everything. Without motivation you have no reason to workout or eat healthier. Before you start a workout or diet you should identify the reason for doing so. Do you want a lifestyle change for yourself or someone around you? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to gain weight? Are you using it as a stress reliever?

Identifying and setting a goal is essential to achieving that goal. Choose how much weight you want to gain or lose, deciding how much time you can set aside each day, and finding a comfort zone to work within. An actual number to gauge our success to is motivation to our minds to continue. Setting aside a reasonable amount of time that fits within your day can allow you to avoid possible stress if you start to run out of time in a day. Picking a workout that you understand and are not self conscious about performing will help eliminate nerves that keep people from attending gyms.

Life is ever-changing and daily motivation will come and go. Music can help put you in a better mood to workout or get you excited for a workout, kind of like certain songs make you want to sing or dance. Workout partners and trainers are also a great way to stay motivated. There is not a single person in the world that wakes up in the morning and is excited for their workout every single day. We all have lazy days. That is why there are personal trainers......and those who are great motivators.

Don't have a motivator in your life? Like a page on Facebook or follow an Instagram page that posts motivational quotes. If you're a movie lover, there are a ton of motivational movies, just make sure you leave plenty of time after movie watching for that workout. If you need some movie ideas I highly suggest you start off with Miracle. You will not be disappointed and it's full of well known quotes.

Identify your inspiration and turn it into your motivation.

About Me

Hi, I'm Taylor. I'm a senior at the University of Toledo, and as you might be able to figure out from the name of this blog, I'm a workout enthusiast. I've been an athlete my whole life. I played softball and basketball year-round on travel teams since the age of 8. Some kids loved playing video games and I loved playing sports. It's pretty much always been the main focus of my life, whether I was playing sports or talking about them. Since my competing days are over, I've been forced to find out what to do with my free time and how to satisfy my need to feel like a part of a team and get exercise. That led me to find my two new favorite hobbies: full body workouts and hockey. Hockey has become my getaway and escape for 4 years now. The cardio involved is unlike anything I've ever done and I've made so many great friends from playing. My team (pictured above, I'm in the dead center) is like a family and we've won back to back championships in ...

Cardio is Great *Sike*

Cardio is necessary to actually have a good workout. That is a downright lie. Cardio is wonderful to help you lose weight but it is not perfect for every workout. If you are trying to gain muscle then it is not really necessary to do cardio. Cardio itself is not going to help you build muscle. Implementing it into your workout can help with overall health but it will not necessarily help you reach the results you want. Cardio will help you drop body fat percentage when it is combined with a healthy diet though. This can then transfer to leaner, more toned muscle results. HIIT cardio is a completely different ball game. The use of fast twitch muscle fibers and the workouts necessary for them can actually lead to small muscle growth. The workouts necessary for HIIT cardio like ladders, burpees, and lunges all promote muscle growth while just running a mile will add more to lung capacity.

Daily workout vlog

I thought it might be kind of cool to switch it up a bit and do a vlog showing one of my workouts. I kind of explain why I do what I do in the video along with a little bit of information about full body workouts. Enjoy!
